Gah, mother… (TW:unintentional ableism)

So a couple of days ago, my mom’s house was invaded while we were at the library. (I’m staying at her house this summer.)

The thieves took a lot of stuff I tend to talk to people on or use a lot: my computer (as well as my mom’s), my mp3 player and headphones. They also took my phone, but I hated that thing and actually kinda wanted a new one.

My mom started talking about the stuff they took from me on Facebook. She said I used it to “escape from the world” (read that in the romanticized, “inspired” way that is often seen in the autism tag, especially during April) among other things.

I know she didn’t mean anything by it and didn’t think I would be offended by her description, but I don’t think she knows what I do with this stuff.

I use my computer to talk to people and play the Sims. I’ve gotten into editing my Sims game lately because it’s super boring at her house (she has an aircard for internet and never lets me use it so I haven’t been doing the “talk to people” side of computer use).

I don’t use my mp3 player to escape from the world. I just have a very elaborate daydream in which I plan music videos/concert performances to the songs. This is a sub-daydream of a larger daydream thing that has gone on for YEARS. In fact, the daydream/imaginary thing is enmeshed with my real life/world, and I can have said daydream going on at the same time as I interact with the real world. So I can’t exactly escape to a world that exists within the confines of the real world.

My mom said I was probably going crazy without that stuff. Truthfully, I’m only going crazy over the fact that I had SO MANY Sims downloads, and I’m not sure how many I can get back. I’m also sad that my dad won’t hack together Windows XP through BootCamp when I get my new MacBook Pro replacement; he’ll only put 7 on it (I do not want 7).

I’m not even freaking out much over the mp3 player (with the exception of some videos I know I’ll never get back). The entire cost of the thing was covered by insurance, and it’s just enough to cover the same model bought off Amazon.

I’m actually most upset that they took my wallet, which had a 1972 half dollar in it, and my older cell phone, which I was using as an alarm clock (no other phone since has been loud enough to wake me up).
